I run an online Facebook writing community, Writers Ink, with NLP and business coach, journalist Maria McHale. Writers Ink is just coming up to its 3rd anniversary and we’re going to be opening to new members to celebrate!
In Writers Ink we tackle all the mindset issues writers face (writers block, imposter syndrome, fear of succcess/failure) as well as improving your writing. The group featured on RTE news during lockdown and has been thriving through some challenging times.
If you’ve ever promised yourself that you’ll develop better writing habits, or struggle to get motivated and stay motivated with your writing, then community and group support is invaluable. Have you forgotten the fun of writing and lost your writing mojo? Are you keen to develop a writing style that has passion, pace and grips the reader?
You really don’t have to do it alone…

If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, come and join us in the wonderful online community that is Writers Ink. We have years of solid experience in coaching and all areas of publishing, as well as writing, to make sure this group will change your writing life!!
Writing is almost one of the scariest things you can do. The main block might seem to be starting – the terror of the blank page – and the many, real stumbling blocks, along the way. But the main thing is something else…There is no reason in the world why you can’t write regularly and maybe even finish that story or book, and the only thing stopping you from doing so is yourself.
But you can change that. And we can help you.
Today is the day you decide that writing is not just a hobby, but something that drives you, something that you need to make work to really find out who you are. And you don’t have to do it alone. That’s what the Writers Ink VIP community is all about.
As you can see, it’s a nurturing environment, one that will enable you to finally realise your writing dreams. And all for less than the price of a cup of coffee a day! For a monthly charge of €49, you can join a community of writers who are going places, in skill and confidence. This is what our week looks like:
Monday: Ask Me Anything – I’ve been working in publishing for over 20 years, and I have a rare 360 degree experience that encompasses self publishing as well as trade publishing. If I can’t answer your question, I know someone who will be able to help.
Tuesday: Every Tuesday I give writing tips, usually based on a question from the group, or perhaps an update on what I’m working on. From agent submission tips to how not to mess up your timeline, these are delivered in text or video, and I love answering any questions that they throw up.
Wednesday: A word or picture prompt designed to mine your creativity and develop your prose. We publish a word or picture prompt for you to respond to in 350 words (many of these pieces have gone on to be shortlisted or win flash fiction competitions.) Critique is optional but the group will comment and make suggestions. One of the picture prompts has given me an idea for a whole new series!
Thursday: Post 500 words of your Work in Progress and I will critique as many as I can personally, but the group will also give their feedback – which is always constructive, incredibly useful and at this stage, many of them are experts at giving feedback.
Friday: Friday is all about your weekly wins – it might be showing up in the group, doing the Wednesday prompt or getting out for a walk. No win is too small (or too big!)
Maria and I step back at the weekends, but the group is open 24/7 and some of the funniest shares are at the weekend. As well as our daily structure, Maria and I do a live chat one evening a week, we also have monthly author takeovers when we interview authors live in the group and they answer your questions. We share competitions, submission opportunities and useful articles and we’ve a section of ‘Guides’ that contain all the previous posts so you can reference plotting or character building, submission tips, or info on how to write a synopsis whenever you need it. If you need 365 picture prompts for fiction, or 365 for non fiction, we’ve got them!
Writers Ink makes a real difference to our members writing and gives much needed support. We only open a few times a year for membership, and usually run a writing challenge before we open, so you can see if you enjoy the process and can meet the other members.
